Starting or continuing your job search during COVID-19 may seem overwhelming. It doesn’t have to be.
Be Strategic. Be Intentional. Be Flexible.
Develop a plan with these three tactics in mind and you will be on your way to a virtual interview in no time.
Companies are hiring. Seek them out, do your research, and target industries that are increasing their workforce. Your strengths and skills cross over into many industries. For example, if you were in sales and are applying for a position in healthcare, talk about your client relationships and how nurturing those relationships would be a relevant skill when working with a new team.
There’s no shame in the network game. Talk to friends, family, and acquaintances. Find out who they work for, if they are hiring, and how to apply. Make connections on Linkedin – friends from your classes, professors, and past co-workers. Load your resume to job search websites, attend virtual career fairs, and network, network, network. Yes, networking can be done virtually as well.
Open yourself up to new opportunities, new industries, and new experiences. Enhance your resume by taking on short term projects or contract work that will increase your expertise. Take time to upskill and stay relevant with current trends. The more flexible your mindset, the more you will learn, grow, and develop.
