A recent MSN Money article studied campus housing across the nation. For many students, the state of residential facilities is a top factor in choosing a college, and many times, access to high-end housing comes with a high-end price. The good news is they identified Colorado State University as being one of the state schools with the most luxurious dorms in the country. But worrying about campus housing does not have to be at the top of your priority list.
One of the many differences between online vs. traditional education is the benefits of online learning like completing your education in the comforts of your own home. Most universities require first-year students to live on campus. As an online student, you have the freedom and flexibility to control many aspects of your learning environment. You won’t have typical roommate issues or crowded study halls. The advantages of online learning are that your entire degree program can be completed wherever you have computer access. This may be at home, a local coffee shop, or while traveling the world.

A common misconception is that the online learning environment doesn’t offer the same resources or support services that a traditional education provides students. When in reality, students taking online courses at CSU have an array of resources available at their fingertips, such as library services, student email access, advising, career services, financial aid counseling, and more.
Finally, the requirement to live on campus often carries a heavy financial burden on students. While living on campus provides a unique and often rewarding experience, it may not be a viable option for all learners due to financial constraints or other reasons such as family and career obligations or the inability to relocate.
Online students can enjoy more control over their housing expenses which is yet another advantage of being an online learner – not to mention the gas you save not having to commute to campus!
What other advantages can you think of that being an online learner affords you?
